Here we going to show you how to build a FLEXIBLE “ROLL AND FOLDABLE” LED Display WS2811. cheap easy and very useful Advertiser
- Side cutter (sharp)
- Screwdrivers mix (cross, slot, big & small)
- Hot Iron (sharp tip)
- Solder (thin)
- Heat gun shrinkable tubing Puncher (to hole the Plane)
- Detergent (cleaning)
First buy, order, collect all the components necessary for this project. Most of the accessories are optional, meaning they are modified for my project. You can change accessories like waterproof or non-waterproof PCBA color of IP65/IP68/LED strip and more.
For this project we used a WS2811 real-time LED live streaming controller. The surface can be changed to different materials or colors. We are using here a flexible PVC Banner, robust, easy to assemble, beautiful…
We offer all accessories and mounting parts for this project and many other LED projects (TOP PRICE, TOP QUALITY, including WARRANTY), so we will help you if you have questions or pricing inquiries.
Prepare your assembly parts and tools. Cut 2cm pieces of shrink tubing (for welding location, estimate 2 pieces per line). Cut the jumper wires for each line. Cut the shrink tube pieces and cover them over the cable connection (use the heat gun to tighten them)
Cut the power +red and ground wires you need (for the controller and for the power supply). Remember that for this WS2811 project we need a new supply of CURRENT every eighth meter.
Connect your controller, create CBX file (support questions) and connect 3-4 lines first and test if “something works or shines”. You can also use the controller’s SD card in real time to see if it works.
Calculate the length of the LED strip you have to cut, depend on your final requested LED DISPLAY SIZE. Include the vertical distance of each string line into your calculation
But, how do I calculate the LED strips for an LED screen?
The formula is: Length of the strip, width of the strip + the custom distance of each chain. It means, if you want to build a 1000mm high screen, the method is: 1000 / strip width + distance = how many strip lines you have to cut / 5000mm is one roll.
Then you will know exactly how many rolls of WS2811 LED strip you need for your project.
After cutting all the ropes, place it on a flat place that is convenient for you to work on. I prefer a huge table. Be careful not to damage the surface if you work on it like we did. Now take the prepared bridge connecting cables and place them on the strings.
Use the hot iron to solder the jumper wires one by one, don’t make a mistake with the input and output of the LED strip, be careful with the arrows.
We also offer quick connectors to connect the power strip without soldering. It’s not about cheap, fast or slow, it’s about quality and the most robust method is the one I use, as you can see.
Soldering the strips in a series circuit means that the start of the first strip is the INPUT. You can start wherever you want with the INPUT, but then in the software you have to change or configure its PORT.
Don’t forget to cover a short 20mm shrink tube over the strip before soldering the wire, otherwise you will have to remove the solder again and cap the shrink tube, it is easier to cap them first.
After soldering (connecting) each strip to the other and doing a short test, power on the strips and try a test with the LED file on the SD card. or connect the laptop with a LAN cable to the controller and open the software. Cover the shrink tube over the soldering place and use the heat gun to fix it firmly and secure it.
When you stop using the heat gun, you should place the strip lines and the connection cable in the FINAL POSITION. Hold it by hand until the shrink tube cools down and is tight, you can shape it as you like. After a few seconds it will be tight and will not move again.
Now you move the strip construct by side, add your Plane surface to the Table, and clean it careful. Place your LED strip construct to the surface.
BRING IT IN POSITION use the meter stick to fix each distance that the strip construct later Placed well in exactly the middle of your surface. Now you can fix the first LED strip line peel the paper from the backside of the strip (glue), hold one side to the up and start from the other side to fix it.
Use your meter stick or caliper to recheck if your strip is straight in position..!
When you finish fixing the entire LED build on the Surface, it’s time to check it again, and connect it to power, if feasible. Use the hole punch to place a small hole EXACTLY below the start of the LED strip input, pass the input wire through the hole.
Attach the SD controller to the back of the surface with double-sided adhesive tape, connect the cables of the input with the SD controller. and also connect your power supply and that’s it.
Finally, bundle, sell or rent your new WS2811 flexible LED display curtain with real-time video controller. There are many ways to recover the money, time and power invested in this project.
If I forget something important, please reply us or check the video also for information about the products, power strip, power supply, finished products, etc. We would like to provide you with assistance as quickly as possible.
